Lull

28 Mar

So… There’s been a bit of a lull in posting lately. I’m sure you haven’t noticed… But in case you have, here are a list of reasons why I haven’t been on the Fizz of late:

  1. I started my Bachelor of Arts (Internet Communications) five weeks ago. I know, I know – somewhat ironic that I start studying internet communications and then stop communicating via the internet. That aside, it’s my first attempt at a tertiary level course in many, many years, and I have to cram to get ahead because I’m having two weeks off in about three week’s time, when my fourth assessment is due in. Suffice to say, every moment outside of work that isn’t taken up with the below items, is taken up with study.
  2. I’m training for a half marathon.
  3. I’ve started taking burlesque classes, one night a week. I’ve only been to one so far, but it was SO much fun!
  4. I’ve taken on a second job, one night a week.
  5. I’ve been baking cupcakes for a friend’s house warming.
  6. I’ve attended my friend’s house warming slash surprise engagement announcement!
  7. I’ve taken my youngest nephew for his first ever driving lesson.
  8. I’ve been unpacking boxes and trying to find homes for the surprisingly, jaw-droppingly, large amount of stuff that I have.
  9. I’ve been falling in love with my new housemate who made me an amazing dinner the other week complete with candles and wine.
  10. The Adelaide Fringe Festival. Say no more.

Quite seriously, I don’t know how I’m still standing upright. I am crazy busy personified right now and I haven’t even started indoor rock climbing yet! Suffice to say, the Fizz will not be updated regularly for a wee while to come so please feel free to cheat on me with other blogs. I promise, I won’t hold it against you… Much…

Catch up in five dot points or less, but probably bang on five if I’m really honest…

  1. Between impromptu trips to Perth, starting a new job, house sitting in a suburb that I’m convinced is closer to the WA border than it is to the Adelaide CBD, house hunting, and falling madly in love with a kaftan, I’ve been, and continue to be, a busy little fizz!
  2. Despite the reason I was there, I really did have a lovely time in Perth and managed to catch up with 84.6% of the people I wanted to. People are very important folks. Be sure to catch up with them regularly, whether that be in person, via email, phone, or carrier pigeon.
  3. I have a job! It’s with a company that I used to work for before I left Adelaide many moons ago, and it feels great to be back in my old digs. Sometimes I get the warm fuzzies just sitting at my desk.
  4. I have been introduced to a man who could possibly be one of the loveliest men in all of Adelaide, AND he’s going to be my housemate! We met for the first time today, and will be hitting the rental market hard over the coming weeks to find ourselves something fabulous.
  5. I wish I had kissed a Timelord. Do you know any?

11 great moments in 2011

31 Dec

What better way to finish off the year than to reflect on the highlights and remember what has made it the year that it was? I really have had quite a jam packed year when I stop and think about it, and after much consideration, I’d have to say that my top 11 moments for 2011 go a little something like this…

  1. Starting the new year with a burlesque show and an amazing French five-course dinner with wine at Duane Park, in New York, with fabulous friends. My first ever >$1,000 dinner bill!
  2. My first ever attempt at snowboarding, during my first ever trip to Bulgaria.
  3. My very first taste of Paris – escargot, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the bread, the cheese, the wine, the romance… le sigh!
  4. A fabulous picnic at Houghton Winery in the Swan Valley, WA, for my 30th birthday, complete with fake moustaches and more amazing friends than I could have ever dreamed of or wished for.
  5. Buying my first ever brand new car. A zippy little Ford Fiesta Zetec that I think is the cutest thing on four wheels, and which was recently renamed from ‘Baby Blue’, to ‘Optimus Stitch’, due to the dash board looking like a combination of my good friend, Optimus Prime, and the oh so cute Stitch.
  6. Discovering Durif – a red wine so heavy it’s like Shiraz on steroids. Seriously, if you like red wine, and you like it heavy, get yourself a bottle of Durif from the Rutherglen region in Victoria – you will never look back.
  7. Two of my best friends having their first born children. A beautiful girl called Maisie, and two stella boys named Heath and Austin. I mean really – don’t my friends pick the coolest names?
  8. Enjoying an amazing three day hike in the Australian Alps – something I had wanted to do for ever! You can read more about that adventure here.
  9. Finishing my patchwork quilt, finally, after five years! I will tell (and show!) you all about it in the new year.
  10. Making the decision to pursue a tertiary qualification and a career I will have a passion for. Completely scary, but great all the same.
  11. Receiving the best compliment I have ever received – that I do a fabulous job of personifying the softer, more traditional aspects of womanhood (cooking, crafts, being feminine and girly etc) whilst still being a strong, independent, kick-ass modern woman. This compliment meant so much to me because being both soft and strong is something that I consciously try to be, and to be told that it’s something that people recognise in me, well, that just floated my boat all the way to the moon and back.

2011 really has been an amazing year, full of adventures, experiences, first times, trials, and triumphs. I shall be seeing 2012 in with one of the very same friends I saw in 2011 with – but this time in Adelaide, South Australia, at her house, with her twin baby boys asleep (hopefully!) in the next room, watching old Hollywood movies, eating slow cooked lamb shanks cheese and pate, and drinking bellini’s – I can’t wait! I hope your 2012 brings you everything you could ever possibly hope for, and then a dash more.

Happy New Year!!!

xx
