Final fancy-pants dinner in Albury(ish)

14 Dec

On Sunday I went out for my final fancy-pants dinner in the Albury region.

I am a huge fan of food, and I have loved discovering the great places to eat around Albury-Wodonga – there are definitely a few places I will miss. Tuileries, where I went on Sunday, serves up a divine menu of fine foods and whilst it’s not a place I could afford to frequent, I do wish I’d discovered it a little earlier on in my stay in this area.

Entree – South Australian king prawns with bloody mary jelly and an almond crunch.

Main – eight hour Persian lamb shoulder served with rhubarb, mixed grain salad, and pomegranate yoghurt

Dessert – Peanut butter parfait on a rich brownie, with caramel and frozen chocolate powder

One of the other features of the evening, which I loved, was the option of drinking from their wine bar – for a completely un-shocking price you can choose to have access to a good selection of white and red wines, available for your self service, which you can help yourself to throughout the evening. Noice.

Snap Happy

This afternoon was my last chance to experience Albury’s Twilight Markets, so Missy Issy and I ventured out after work and, after a very sunny walk around the stalls, we settled onto a shady park bench to enjoy the real reason we were there… some mouthwateringly delicious crepes!

Rolling lunch

22 Nov

Brown Brothers is one of my absolute favourite wineries. My love affair with the Brown’s started years ago when I first tasted their deliciously fruity Zibibbo, which costs a fraction of what you think it would when you first let it fizz around on your taste buds. When I moved to Albury-Wodonga earlier this year, you can’t even begin to imagine how excited I was to discover that the Brown’s lived just a 40 minute drive away!!! Seriously, three exclamation marks does not even come close!

So there was no hesitation on my part when I discovered that over the weekend, there would be a food and wine festival taking place at Brown Brothers. My little gastronome soul nearly floated off to heaven when I further discovered that as a part of this festival, you could partake of a four course rolling lunch with matching wines, consumed whilst roving about the winery and getting a little glimpse of where the magic happens behinds the scenes!!

The food was amazing – goats cheese and marinated octopus hors d’oeuvres (paired with Prosecco) – chicken, duck, and pig terrine served on a creamy green salad with cherries (paired with Tarrango) – melt-in-your-mouth-tender steak served on creamy potato mash with orange and purple carrots and parsnips dressed with mustard gravy (paired with the amazing Shiraz, Mondeuse & Cabernet which, incidentally, I am drinking again right now!) – and finally, a blue cheese panacotta (paired with a Late Harvested Patricia Noble Riesling, which doesn’t even have a link because they’re down to their last 198 bottles at the cellar door! … They had 200 before I showed up).

A long day at a winery, learning about how everything works, enjoying amazing food and delicious wines – this is my idea of heaven.
