Oh my, what a big cupcake you have!

27 Feb

Number 21 on my list of Things I Will Do - make a giant cupcake - check!

On Saturday I pulled some of my cupcake recipes from my days as a cupcake empress and jigged and combined them to create a GIANT cupcake recipe which, after a few minor oven temperature adjustments, seemed to work out just fine. Tonight, I decorated the little darling in time for its big debut tomorrow as a birthday cake for one of my most favourite work ladies.

The cake itself is vanilla and lemon (yet to be taste tested), with the frosting being a delicious meringue flavour (successfully taste tested by Yak, House Husband, AND moi!) coloured orange and pale yellow for the base, and grassy green for the top. The little fondant flowers I did nay make myself, but thought they were just the sweetest way to finish the whole thing off so couldn’t resist adding them to the mix.

A 100 day challenge

25 Nov

My 100th fizz-post got me thinking about how chuffed I was that I had managed to stick to something for 100 days straight. So chuffed, in fact, that I wanted to keep the chuffiness (yes, that will be a word) going by setting myself a new 100 day challenge, and what better than something designed to get me super fit, super healthy, and into the great outdoors?! Something I can do just about anywhere, with minimal equipment? Something that gives me an excuse to wear hot pink shorts? Why not indeed!

So, starting on the Sunday just gone, I started my new 100 day challenge – to run every single day for 100 days straight. That makes today day six and, so far, so good. There are no real hard and fast rules to this challenge, because whilst I want it to be a challenge, I want it to be something I enjoy too. For that reason, running can be any type of running – intervals on a treadmill, low impact on an ergo trainer, barefoot running, running for distance, a lazy 2.4km, or sprints, or hills, or whatever really. The important thing is just to run and, if I’m really truly too sore or too tired to run on any given day, then a 5km walk is an acceptable substitution.

I’m a bit excited about meeting this challenge – especially as it means running on Christmas and New Years Day, and whilst I’m moving states and all that – but hey, that’s why it’s called a challenge!

Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner!

15 Sep

Item number 14 on my list of things I will do was to change my hair dramatically. Well, I am thrilled to be able to say done, and done!

If you follow me on Twitter (go on, it’s fun!), you would have heard me tweeting away yesterday about what I was doing, but without giving too much away. A few mentions of chops, a photo of some hair no longer attached to my head, but, no real details… So, without further ado (see what I did there??)…

This is what my hair looked like up until yesterday afternoon. The longest it’s ever been in my entire life – down to the middle of my back – a little bit of wave but reasonably straight:

And then yesterday…

Nobody puts baby in a corner! I swear, I was half-expecting a watermelon to jump into my arms as soon as I left the hairdresser!

It’s not quite done yet – colour will be added to the mix in two weeks time once the perm has had time to settle in – nothing drastic, just a few copper highlights to jazz it up a little; but how much fun are curls??!
